CENTRO DE SALUD COCHABAMBA “CERRO VERDE”

Volunteer/ Internship requirements:

• Beginner Spanish
• Knowledge/experience in health care or social work
• Willingness to make field trips with staff to rural communities
• One month minimum commitment

Backgroud:
The Centro de Salud Cerro Verde is located in the southern zone of Cochabamba and serves 30,000 people from low-income backgrounds. The center has facilities for pediatrics, gynecology, laboratory work, psychology, and general medical attention. Health care is available free of charge for pregnant women and children under the age of five. In addition, The Center sends staff members on frequent visits to rural communities in an effort to educate adolescents about sexual health, personal hygiene, and disease prevention.

At the moment The Center runs three main programs:

• Tuberculosis Campaign (prevention and treatment)
• Chagas Campaign (prevention and treatment against a deadly insect that lives in the walls of adobe buildings and affects millions of people)
• Vaccination campaign
