Our mission is to promote the arts in Bolivia while fostering intercultural exchange between international and local artists.
Who can Apply
The Art Residency Program in Latin America, concretly in Bolivia, is available to all artists from any country regardless of age, gender, or medium. The residency focuses on the disciplines of visual arts but we will also consider applications from other mediums including creative writing, music and dance. Preference will be given to those with Spanish language skills.
Sustainable Bolivia’s Art Residency program began in 2009 with Scottish-born painter Thomas “Mac” McGreggor. Through Mac, SB met many local and international artists and quickly became involved in Bolivia’s art community. In an effort to maintain this cultural exchange, as well as develop a tradition within our organization, SB decided to work alongside local artists to develop an art residency program.
In an effort to fully integrate the resident as well as provide a service to the community, the selected candidate will also have the opportunity to volunteer with one of SB’s partner organizations.
What is Provided?
Selected applicants are provided a large furnished living space, studio access, art partners in Bolivia who may be interested in showing their work. We have contacts with local and national press outlets and will work together to promote showings.
The art residency costs the same as a volunteer/intern ($350 or less a month) and includes a fully furnished private room, all utilities, 24-hour staff support, internet access, cultural events and the occasional opportunity to stay at our amazon eco-lodge Pisatahua for additional inspiration.
Please submit a resume with a brief cover letter and samples of your work (firstname.lastname@example.org). Applications will be reviewed by Sustainable Bolivia’s Art Review Board composed of local and international artists.
