Handyman & Farm to Table Manager


Sustainable Bolivia is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in the Bolivian Amazon that partners with local initiatives to provides resources that support ecotourism, health and education. Volunteers and interns are placed with partner NGOs throughout the country, namely in and around Riberalta, Bolivia.

SB has 6 partners in the sector of education, all located in Riberalta. One of the partners, Hogar Cristo te Salva,  needs two people to take care of the newly created community garden as well as fixing the place.

Handyman

Responsibilities may include:

  • Fixing small broken things together with the owner of the orphanage
  • Make a plan on how it would be possible to teach the children these skills together with the orphanage
  • Organize training sessions with the children
  • Helping with meal preparation and menu planning
  • Depending on the current projects and activities, help building or renovating

Qualifications:

  • Minimum commitment of 1 month
  • Basic Spanish
  • Experience working with youth preferred
  • Patience and flexibility, ability to work with little supervision
  • Due to the large proportion of boys males are especially encouraged to apply

Farm to Table Manager

Responsibilities may include:

  • Preparing and implementing educational activities in basic garden maintenance, compost, harvesting/transplanting techniques and seed saving
  • Working alongside kitchen staff to create new healthy and budget conscious recipes
  • Acting as primary manager for community garden
  • Helping shop for and prepare recipes for large community meals
  • Supervising and teaching kitchen skills to older children
  • Helping with meal preparation and weekly menu planning ensuring quality nutrition for each child
  • Utilizing nutrient dense plants to supplement meals and create nutritional
    balance

Qualifications:

  • Minimum commitment of 1 month
  • Basic Spanish
