Study Spanish in Bolivia
Sustainable Bolivia Language School provides high quality instruction for students of all levels and ages. Oriented towards socially and ecologically aware travelers/ volunteers, all of the profits from our Spanish and Quechua language school are reinvested to help support the work of our foundation. According to our philosophy of promoting sustainable practices in rural and urban communities throughout Bolivia, our teachers receive a sustainable salary, (over twice the going hourly wage), yet our prices are still lower than most other language schools in Bolivia. Our philosophy facilitates a positive studying and working environment while allowing us to employ the most qualified teachers in Cochabamba.
Our goal is to create an optimal learning environment allowing our students to learn and fully enjoy their experience. All of our instruction is private one-to-one lessons with tailor made curriculum to meet the needs of each student. Teaching is balanced between the areas of writing, reading, and grammar, but we place special emphasis on developing conversation skills. Our focus is not only on learning Spanish from a text book but also on the real world experiences of our teachers. Topics include Bolivian history, culture, and religion, as well as current social and political issues. In addition to time spent in class, students have the opportunity to explore Cochabamba and its surroundings accompanied by their teacher.
Intensive Spanish and Quechua Program
Our intensive Spanish and Quechua program includes 20 hours per week, (4 hours per day), of one-to-one instruction. Classes take place during our office hours of 9:00 AM to 7.00 PM. We can arrange group lessons with advance notice, but most students find that private instruction is the most effective method to learn the language. If you would like to arrange a different class schedule, we can almost always accommodate your needs (see below). Our intensive Spanish programs price is set at 55 Bolivianos, or approximately $7.50. (Click here for more information on our prices).
Individualized Program
We also offer you the opportunity to personally construct your own language study program. The same office hours apply but you can choose which days and times fit your personal schedule. The price for our individualized Spanish program is set at 60 Bolivianos or approximately $8.25 an hour but is negotiable depending on amount of classes purchased. Additionally we offer discount packages for our volunteers.
Other Languages
We also provide classes in Quechua, the indigenous language of the descendants of the Inca peoples. Quechua is the most widely spoken indigenous language in and around Cochabamba. A basic knowledge of Quechua is much appreciated and will open many doors and create many smiles.
