Promote Environmental Stewardship to Children


Sustainable Bolivia is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in the Bolivian Amazon that partners with local initiatives to provides resources that support ecotourism, health and education. Volunteers and interns are placed with partner NGOs throughout the country, namely in and around Riberalta, Bolivia.

SB wants to work with several of its partners in order to promote environmental education in schools and orphanages, and has two positions for that.

Volunteer promoting the environment and Bolivia’s biodiversity

Responsibilities may include:

  • Preparing and implementing educational activities around environmental conservation, recycling, nature, the region’s biodiversity, etc.
  • Preparing a project with the children on the theme of the environmental conservation (a play, a drawing/painting, etc.)
  • Helping plan and supervise children on off-campus outings
  • Helping maintain community garden

Qualifications:

  • Minimum commitment of 1 month
  • Basic Spanish
  • Experience working with youth, especially in a Spanish speaking environment, an advantage
  • Patience and flexibility, ability to work with little supervision
  • Due to the large proportion of boys male volunteers are especially encouraged to apply

Ecological Club Manager in the school of Warnes

Sustainable Bolivia has helped securing the Aquicuana Reserve based 20km from the city of Riberalta and has been supporting the two communities in the reserve: San José and Warnes. In the community of Warnes, SB has been working in the school and has for example launched with volunteers an Ecological Club.

About the community of Warnes:
Warnes hosts around 300 people including 160 children going to the primary and secondary school. With volunteers, Sustainable Bolivia has developed an ecological club in the school, with 70 children from all levels. The idea of this club is to raise awareness on environmental issues and to create habits of cleaning up our surroundings.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Preparing and implementing environmental activities including cleaning up the school and/or the community, recycling activities, promoting the nature
  • Helping plan and supervise children
  • Create a small garden

Qualifications:

  • Minimum commitment of 1 month
  • Lower Intermediate Spanish
  • Interest or experience in the environmental
  • Experience working with youth, especially in a Spanish speaking environment
  • Patience and flexibility, ability to work with little supervision
