I was traveling around South America for 7 months in total and wanted some organized volunteer placement as well as traveling by myself, found Sustainable Bolivia on the internet and had a chat with Erik. He was really helpful and arranged a suitable placement for my experience and Spanish level. I volunteered at La Colonia, a children’s home, which was great fun. The kids are amazing and the couple who run it, I have the greatest respect for. SB is like a big family and they are very welcoming to new volunteers. I went in the afternoons, Monday through Friday and was invited to a wedding and graduation ceremony of some of the older girls. It was nice to be included in both.

The volunteer placement is just one part of the program. I had a fabulous time staying in the house in Cochabamba. I met a lot of very cool people, got shown around central Cochabamba and enjoyed some of the cafes and restaurants. There´s always something going on, from BBQs at the house to nights out in the local ´discotecas´. Cocha is a very laid back city, it’s pretty, not too touristy and has great weather. There are amazing places close by, which are good for weekend visits. I went on to meet up with several of the friends I made from the volunteer house on my trip, one of which I traveled with for quite some time after my time in Cochabamba. All and all, my volunteer placement really made my trip.
